Chandigarh, India
Chandigarh was the first planned city after India gained independence, and has a beautiful layout! It is divided into many small, numbered sectors, with lots of parks and green spaces, along with efficient transportation. We loved the bus system there; buses came frequently and were easy to navigate due to the sector system. The city had a different feel than the other cities we visited and we enjoyed walking through the parks and along the big sidewalks.
We arrived late on the night of 6/14 and had difficulties getting to our hotel from the airport since it was far away and late at night, so transit was limited. After several buses, we eventually made it and had a quick sleep before heading back to the bus station to catch our bus to Aut.
We arrived back in Chandigarh on 6/20 and explored a bit on 6/21 (restaurants, rose garden, Leisure Valley) before taking a really nice train down to New Delhi.
Chandigarh is my friend Karan’s hometown and he helped us immensely by booking our bus tickets to Aut (to get to the homestay)! We weren’t able to book these online without being an Indian citizen, but they were filling up fast due to traveling during a holiday weekend so we wouldn’t have been able to get a ticket and experience the homestay had it not been for Karan helping us!!
