Jaipur, India
Notes from the journal:
6/12
- When we arrived in Jaipur we were instantly harassed by tuktuk drivers and vendors all the way to our hostel :/
- We were both at the end of our rope after a long day and people were being loud all night so we didn’t get much sleep
6/13
- We went to a restaurant for breakfast but I couldn’t really eat anything and was feeling very overwhelmed so we went to a nice little coffee shop to have chai and read for a few hours, which helped
- Walked to City Palace, a nonexistent market, Pink City area, and Hawa Mahal before I got overwhelmed with the harassment again and we decided we were done with the heat so went to another coffee shop
- Stopped at an ATM where the security guard asked for a tip for his “help”
- Went to a rooftop hotel restaurant and had a few bites of some good Kashmiri aloo
- Tried to get an Uber up to Nahrgarh fort but drivers were being scammy so it took awhile and eventually a nice driver took us up there. Paid the entry fee and walked around the complex. We missed most of the sunset due to the issues with finding a driver we could trust, but still got to see a nice view of the city at dusk and walked around the inside of the fort. Saw lots of monkeys up top and some pretty architecture.
- Decided not to deal with trying to get a ride down so we poked around and were able to find a way to get down on foot so we took a shortcut and walked an hour towards our hostel and then took the Jaipur metro a couple of stops which was really nice!
6/14
- Tried to get an Uber up to Amer fort but the driver cancelled on us after making us wait for a long time, which was frustrating
- We were over it so we just ditched the whole plan for the day, which was unfortunate because we didn’t get to see a lot of the classic sites of Jaipur
- Went to the same place as yesterday for breakfast and then the same cafe to spend the whole afternoon reading
- We went to a kebab place for dinner but I didn’t eat anything and then we took an unproblematic Uber (thank god) to Patrika Gate to walk around a bit. Sat on a bench in a very nice park and then walked to the airport and after a small delay, got on a little prop plane to Chandigarh

I wouldn’t really recommend Jaipur as a destination overall...it would probably be better with a guide or tour though. Public transport is lacking and rideshares are very difficult to deal with so I think a tour would make this a lot better.
