Cameron Highlands, Malaysia

 Notes from the journal:

8/1

  • Arrived in the Cameron Highlands and stopped at an Indian restaurant for dinner on the way to my hostel

8/2

  • Walked on the road about 40 mins downhill to the 2nd Cameron Valley Tea House and got teh tarik. The place was crowded but I enjoyed amazing views of the valley and bought an entire kilogram of tea for 2 USD (insane, but even more insane is that I was already so far over the 7kg weight limit and still decided to do this)
  • Continued on to the 1st tea house and bought a pedestrian pass to walk through the tea fields, where I escaped the crowds but then reached an overgrown section of the trail where I saw a million snakes and kept slipping in the mud. I stepped on a snake which gave me a little fright and eventually made it back to town just as it started to rain
  • Stopped at 7/11 for lunch and went back to the hostel in the rain to change into dry clothes and rest
  • Went to go meet up with Sophia (she had stayed longer in Thailand so this was our first time meeting up again in Malaysia) to do a short hike to some falls and get dinner at an Indian restaurant
  • Went to 7/11 for ice cream and ended up sitting on the ground outside talking for a couple hours before we left to go to our hostels
  • There was a small child in my dorm which was a first

8/3

  • Walked to the bus station and dealt with a really rude man but made it on my bus to Ipoh

Read if I referred you to this post:

The Cameron Highlands are very touristy but I did really enjoy the views on my walk/hike. There’s more farms nearby but I didn’t rent a motorbike, so I just spent one day visiting the tea houses that I could reach by foot.
