Ipoh, Malaysia
Notes from the journal:
8/3
- Dropped my stuff at my hostel in Ipoh, went back to the bus station and asked several employees for help finding the city buses but they were very vague so it took me forever to figure it out so I then had to wait an hour for a city bus. I got super hungry and got a headache
- Walked through a nice colorful part of town to Yong Suan for Nasi Ganja, which was amazing and I shared a table with the nicest sisters who had stopped there on their way back to KL from Penang. It was so great to meet them and talk with them for awhile. It meant a lot to me and was another major highlight of Malaysia (and certainly of my not so great day in Ipoh)! I learned a lot and really enjoyed the conversation :)
- Went to Ming Court for Dim Sum (kind of a mistake bc I was already full) and got a few dishes
- Walked to the bus and waited for awhile before taking it to Perak Cave Temple, which had a very nice vibe with lots of beautiful statues and paintings on the cave wall
- Hiked up to a viewpoint over Ipoh and then tried to wait out the rain down below but eventually had to walk in the pouring rain to catch a bus back to my hostel, which ended up breaking down on the side of the road for awhile
- Stopped at a mall near my hostel for some baked goods, and stopped at a grovery store for part of my hijab covering and to stock up on snacks
8/4
- Sat outside hostel for a bit and then went back to bus station to catch my bus to Penang
Read if I referred you to this post:
Ipoh is known for food and I really enjoyed the two places above that I ate at, but other than that, I did not find a lot to do. However, it is a neat stop since it is not super popular amongst foreign tourists.
