Vang Vieng, Laos
Notes from the journal:
7/10
- Short but beautiful (and crowded) train ride, arrived in Vang Vieng and taxis from the station were expensive so walked an hour to my hostel on the side of a busy highway, stopping for dinner on the way
- I tried to find a non-party hostel bc Vang Vieng is a big party destination but some girl was still throwing up on and off all night after she got back from the bars which was annoying but oh well
7/11
- Ate some of my food and stored some of my stuff at the hostel, rented a mountain bike nearby and biked to Nam Xay viewpoint to do a very slippery and muddy hike to one of the famous motorbike viewpoints. Met some cool people at the top, chatted with them for a bit.
- Biked further down the country road (very beautiful bike ride all day) to Horkham viewpoint (airplane), which I had all to myself so I sat and enjoyed the view
- Biked to Blue Lagoon 3 and had fun swimming and ziplining. Met some nice people from Mumbai but a guy from Korea kept shoving a camera in ppl’s faces (including mine) trying to make a vlog so I kept telling him to stop and he was mad lol
- SUCH a gorgeous bike ride back to town (I was living my best life), grabbed my stuff from the hostel and chilled by the pool for a bit before walking an hour back to the train station and taking the train to Vientiane
- Took a taxi to my hostel in Vientiane, which was…interesting (would not stay again), grabbed a beer across the street and relaxed a bit and then slept before walking an hour to the airport the next morning for my flight to Cambodia
Read if I referred you to this post:
I would recommend Vang Vieng, but the nature side of it rather than the party side. I only needed a day to see what I wanted to see, but could have spent 2 days bicycling around (3 would have been too much). The town itself is meh and I researched the hot air balloon rides but found lots issues with them so didn’t do a ride (they were cool to see from the streets tho).
